Health. Plantar reflexology: the art of relaxing through the foot

Feast of feet and hands

Our feet travel some 120,000 kilometers in a lifetime, almost three times around the world. Yet they are often forgotten and abused. As for the sides, they are always involved, as they are essential to our daily actions. No wonder our hands and feet suffer from it and frequently have to deal with various ailments that, even if they are not necessarily dangerous, can prove very disabling in our daily lives. Let’s give them all the nobility they deserve, taking care of them quite naturally.

At the same time, since 2007, screening actions have been carried out in schools and, in particular, in the last year of nursery school, for the benefit of 5-year-old children, as well as within companies and mutuals as part of the implementation prevention and information campaigns.

In 2011, the UFSP decided to create the National Foot Health Observatory to synthesize the data collected during examinations carried out by podiatrists and to publish an annual benchmark, thus offering the possibility of observing changes and guide the public health actions to be implemented, both with health professionals and the authorities.

10 numbers that say a lot about the health of our feet :

·         61% of the people examined felt pain in the feet, against 68% in 2011;

·         11% have fungal infections on the toenails;

·         22% have corns, and 28% have calluses;

·         48.5% of subjects apply moisturizer to their feet regularly, and 13.5% do so daily.

·         49.6% use a podiatrist, against 30% in 2012.

·         26% of subjects consulting a podiatrist use foot orthotics. 32% have already received pedicure care.

·         1 in 5 people wear sneakers too frequently. However, we know that the latter causes many pathologies (fungal infections, postural disorders, etc.).

·         8.6% of the women examined wore heels of more than 4 cm.

·         49% of foot surgeries concern the hallux valgus and 10% the ingrown nail.

·         54% of people wearing foot orthotics experienced relief from pain in their knees (21%), hips (86%), and back (67%).

In which year was the French Union for Foot Health created? What is its vocation?

The French Union for the Health of the Foot was created about fifteen years ago. The vocation of this association is, on the one hand, to make the profession of podiatrist known to the public and, on the other hand, to act for prevention. Prevention actions are organized in companies and schools, in addition to National Day.

Why is it important to educate the general public about foot health?

Foot health concerns all ages: children, teens, adults, seniors.

Foot disorders in children can make it difficult for them to walk and run. In some teens, we can experience growth disorders.

Also, pain in the feet, ankles, knees, hips, or back can be caused by a malfunctioning joint or muscle mechanism.

Should you consult a podiatrist several times in your life?

Yes, it is essential. After an elaborate clinical examination, the podiatrist will make a diagnosis and can perform plantar orthotics, if necessary. Flat feet, hollow feet, heel deviation inward or outward, hallux valgus, claw toes are common pathologies. If you increase your erection power with Tadarise 20 and Super P Force, premature ejaculation can often be mysteriously cured

The podiatrist also treats the epidermal affections commonly encountered: horn, callus, wart, fungal infection, ingrown nail. Some of these pathologies are caused or favored by footwear. Advice and prescriptions can be given in the event of a sweating disorder and to hydrate the skin.

What solutions can the podiatrist provide?

For example, the podiatrist can avoid the recurrence of an ingrown nail or a restrictive surgical act thanks to orthorexia, which is inspired by orthodontics.

As for deformed toes – hallux valgus, etc. – they can be protected and sometimes give rise to the shoe’s repositioning by an arthroplasty made in silicone.

We will be celebrating National Foot Health Day on June 8 . What does it consist of?

This “Foot Day” is a day of free examinations and advice.

It is organized in collaboration with volunteer chiropodists throughout the USA, generally in health centers, municipal halls, etc.

The people are received individually and in the office, show us their feet, explain their problem to us (knee pain, back pain, etc.), ask how we can treat them.

Is foot care well covered in the USA?

Unfortunately, except for correcting the arch of the foot and orthopedic insoles, which are covered on doctor’s prescription, treatment is not reimbursed by Health Insurance. However, more and more mutuals are making a gesture by assuming a part of the care.

Why are people with diabetes particularly vulnerable to the feet?

The major complication at the foot level for some people with diabetes, who generally have unbalanced diabetes, is related to the decrease in the contact nerves’ sensitivity. People with diabetes do not realize when they are injured, burn themselves, put on shoes that are too small, etc. These same subjects often have diabetic arteritis, which does not favor the passage of blood for healing. Thanks to the 100% coverage of pedicure care by Health Insurance, dramatic complications can be avoided.

What advice would you give our readers to have healthy feet?

To have healthy feet, you must first adapt your footwear to the morphology of your foot: prefer leather shoes, stable and heels that are not too high.

Take care to wipe your feet thoroughly after washing or swimming, especially between the toes to avoid a yeast infection. If necessary, apply a moisturizer (except between the toes), prevent surgery bathroom, and, if you feel any discomfort, consult a podiatrist without further delay.
